Still Life

Growing this business with a pure self-learning skill, I learn to evolve my knowledge along with the trend.  Finding inspiration from a successful designer is one, but observing is another thing that I find easier to adapt.   I love to collect things every now and then, I love looking at things and try to think of ways how it would look like if that thing wears jewelry or being captured with the jewelry.  To give different angle to what jewelry is or perhaps a sense of still life in a way..

This is Lime natural rocks Y necklace in vintage brass metal.  It is hanging at the neck of reuse label-stripped-off Evian glass bottle.

Sarang Earrings with Purple Crystals photographed with miniature object.  This french-style chair miniature has been with me since I was 10 years old, you perhaps can see the vintage effect on this porcelain chair.

p6050008

Dangling earrings in milky sapphire tone crystal, roughly around 8mm in diameter.  I set up a blue cloud background to give “heavenly” effect.

As if this bracelet is a hang-dry wet laundry. This is one of my favorite color, not only it shines but also it resemblance the color of a happy sky, match with the background.

On the dried rose. I have a mini rose plant on my front garden and when it blooms I cut them and put them in the middle of the living room until it dried they become a potpourri.  Didn’t realize that it would turn out good as I worry that the background will be too overcrowded with the dried petals, thorns and bushes, but seriously it blends perfectly. Pearl and Rose.

This is off-white pearl, very demure and sophisticated, I had set the background from inside of a novel title Man and Boy by Tony Parson, the book I am currently reading.

and Ian, the Ironing Board (not sure what role he’s on), he’s the strongest though, can you see  he’s down there  supporting Amber to hold the long earrings?

p5200710

Picture above is Amber and Sue try to support my long convertible gold necklace.  Oh I know I don’t do this usually but, I can’t help it, they’re too cute not to have their own names.  And I love them as much as I love my jewelries.

More Handmade Cards..

Inspired by so many weddings I attend. I hate to just give ordinary red-envelope filled with money, so I made my own cards..

 P4170037

P4170047vok P4170008v

P4170062vokP4170079vok P4170076vok

Size: 8 cm x 11 cm. Inside is blank. The card is not completely white, it’s somewhat violet shade.  I use ribbon, Japanese glass beads, well some of them are just regular seed beads.. And lots and lots of glue.   I love how it turned out, the last one is my favorite. I haven’t give anyone of these to anyone, but I do plan to use one of these. Feel free if you want to order, if you’re my friend, and you are getting married anytime soon, I will give this to you, with the money inside of course, as a present.  But if you’re not, you can buy these from me. I know you might be thinking why its all the same concept, that’s because I’m just so fascinated with the seed beads and the idea of making cakes in various colors. Apologize for the redundant, I tend to do that when I get too excited at something.

Worstly, there are some still work in progress, I do plan to make more of variety on the cakes.

Well, I also love love kitty cat, so obviously…

P4170098vokLook at these gorgeous cat! The card size is half the ones I showed above. With mounting tape for 3D effect. The black cat is perforated on an unused inside of floppy disk.

Anyhow, other than that, I also made a couple of just-because cards..

P4170106vok

This is 5.3 cm x 8 cm, blank inside. I use a mounting tape to give a 3d effect. it says “Have a good time!” there is a book for you to read, a cup of tea, a jar of homemade jam (strawberry I think), and a basket of chocolate chip cookies. All for you!

P4170124vokThis is 8 cm x 11 cm, most of the cards will be on this size, it’s press dried Dandelion and water color.

P4170120

I have one more, but I will post it later as the picture quality is not so good…

P4170020Last but not least, all these photos I took with three desk-lamps and my room’s drape as the background. I hope it don’t look so amateur.

Have a good night!

Photo Technique

These links I found useful to make your own photo-booth

http://drawingsinmotion.blogspot.com/2009/01/making-of-light-box.html

http://digital-photography-school.com/how-to-make-a-inexpensive-light-tent

http://whiteroomcolorfullife.blogspot.com/2009/01/light-box-on-cheap.html

And here is my own personal light box..

P1310097v1 I shoot with three lights, in Cool Daylight shades, 23 watts, 18 watts, and 21 watts. On three sides: left, right, and above. One of the result is here.

And here..

P1310087v This is my camera case (I’m using Olympus FE-190 6.0 megapixel) I bought last September in Bali. I love it so much I bought like a dozen of them, I keep two and the rest I gave them away for each one of my girlfriends. They love it too!

If it’s not bright enough, I edit it with Picasa, you can download it here,

http://picasa.google.com/

What I like about Picasa is not only it’s for free, but you can also store your file in their web album, and then for me who aren’t so good at using the technique, it has “I’m feeling lucky” button I use it all the time.

Above are the difference. Sometimes it won’t work because it would enhance the shadow rather than the highlight, but it works most of the time.

Below are the result of my experiment..

P1310082  Happy trying and hope that help.
